Relationship between WhatsApp groups and parent participation in schools
Main Article Content
Abstract
WhatsApp groups of families in the same classroom have been consolidated as a communication tool in school settings. However, there is still little research studying them. This study analyses the opinions of parents of primary school students in Spain and Chile regarding the relationship between these chats and their participation in schools, through a comparative case study method. The data collection techniques used are of a mixed nature: the questionnaire (a quantitative technique) and the focus group (a qualitative technique). The results show that a higher percentage of Chilean than Spanish families consider that these groups encourage their participation in schools. This difference may be due to the fact that Chilean teachers tend to belong to and participate in theme, while Spaniards stay away from them.
