The Myth of the Conquest of Chile: Inés del Alma Mía (Prime Video, 2020)

Abstract
This research analyzes the historical fiction series Inés del alma mía (Prime Video, 2020), a Spanish-Chilean co-production that adapts Isabel Allende's novel and engages with the Spanish conquest of Chile, thereby invoking the representation of a historical period that pertains to various nationalities. This case study is of interest due to its status as a co-production between both countries and the historical moment it depicts a symbolic, foundational, and controversial episode that has fueled debates about memory. A textual analysis of the series is conducted to examine the audiovisual narrative and explore its construction, complemented by an interview with Nicolás Acuña, one of its directors. Inés del alma mía offers a new configuration of the myth of the Conquest of Chile through a dramatic biopic of Inés de Suárez. This approach reinterprets the historical theme by focusing on the development of a real and significant female figure who is attributed a key role in the country's foundation, being the first Spanish woman to set foot in Chile and playing an essential part in the expedition, colonization, and settlement of the Andean region.
