Abstract

During the Baroque period, the city of Baza was a cultural centre that supplied artists not only to the towns linked to its Abbey but also to the towns of the bishoprics of Guadix-Baza and Almeria, reaching the capitals of both dioceses. In this historical period, several carvers and sculptors settled in the city, focusing today on the workshop of the Alós, a saga from Játiva (Valencia) that developed its artistic work over more than a century, from the eighties of the seventeenth century to the last third of the eighteenth century.
