Abstract

The first goal of genetic criticism is to reconstruct the dynamics of writing, but this discipline also tries to unravel the network of meanings that builds; for this purpose develops two main types of activities: the genetic edition of modern texts and the undertaking of various interpretative possibilities. The work in progress review shows that in this space beats a perpetual conflict between unity and diversity, balance and instability, and that dialectic opposition between permanence and change –inherent nature of the cultural processes– accompanies philological studies since its inception: genetic criticism then may be considered as one modern avatar of Philology.
