Abstract

This article examines the life and works of Luis Enríquez de Navarra y Marín (1648-1722) and his son, the Jesuit Diego Enríquez de Navarra y Haro (1675-1710). After the reconstruction of their biography, it offers and accurate commentary of his most ambitious poem, the Panegírico a Felipe V, printed in Madrid in 1708. The eulogy is based on the mixture of historical data, epic topoi and the style of Góngora’s masterpieces.
