Problemas encontrados en la traducción del español al italiano de los cuentos del libro Historias máginas del Mayab de Javier Gómez Navarrete

Abstract

While writing the Italian translation of the collection of tales “Magical Stories of the Mayab”, I discovered the Mayan cosmogony, a visión of the world and Ufe completely different from the philosophy of the western world, which implies the inevitability of a globalization with highly negative traits. The tales take us to another reality, rooted in the quest for balance and harmony with our environment and outlined with shocking clarity. The author helped me to understand some features of the Mayas, while footnotes in the original shed light on the meaning of some uheard-of words and terms. The structure of the tales, with their short sentences, led me to make use of direct translation strategies, with little room for transformations or modulations. However, should the book be published again, a revisión of the Italian versión would be advisable and rewarding.
