Main Article Content
Abstract
In thls work I am concerned with a brlef historical revisión of the Restauration period, where I discuss the causes of proliferation of satirio poems in England. The example chosen is The Medal by John Dryden, one of the most representative poems of the period. It is devoted to criticize the figure of the Count of Shaftesbury, an oíd ally of Charles II who decided to support the Duke of Monmouth as the successor to the throne.
