Abstract

In this paper I approach the concept of faithfulness in literay translation and its relevance today. The role of the translator can be that of a discoverer of an unkown, mysterious text. When translating we tend to write in an aesthetically beautiful form with no consideration, añer Milán Kundera, for the frequent transgression in the language: coloquial and vulgar registers, for example. I make some reflections on my own translations of Vargas Llosa’s work so as to exemplify the cases of faithfulness when facing the sexual tabú, the truculent and the escathological.
