Abstract

Botanical collections constitute a valuable information source about current and past plant biodiversity. Despite their educational potential, this resource is often underutilized in teaching, partly due to the delicate nature of the specimens they house and the need for careful handling. This project proposes the creation of documentary videos to familiarize university students with botanical collections and their inherent activities and procedures. Three instructional videos were produced, each focusing on three of the most significant botanical collections located in the city of Cordoba (Spain): Herbarium of the Faculty of Sciences at the University of Cordoba (COFC), Museum of Ethnobotany, and Museum of Paleobotany, the latter two situated in the Royal Botanical Garden of Cordoba. By combining the viewing of videos with the reading of related scientific articles, carefully curated by the instructor, we were able to enhance the course curriculum and achieve a highly effective pedagogical approach. This initiative advocates for the manifold advantages of documentary videos as tools for motivation and learning in the educational context.
