Mitología y subversión de valores en los discursos diogénicos de Dión de Prusa

Abstract

:In the four discourses where Diogenes the Cynic appears as a real protagonist, Dio of Prusa (Or. 6 and 8-10) makes insistent use of the Greek mythology, boldly interpreting the deep meaning of some relevant characters. His subversive interpretation attracts powerful attention in sharp contrast with a more common, traditional and almost official interpretation, the only one which practically people have received from their instructors. This double interpretation sets in contrast Dio’s educating mission, as a disquieting wandering preacher, and the middle class paideia of the “Sophists” of his time.
