The European Law Moot Court as a Success Story

This article analyses moot court as a teaching methodology in legal education, with a special focus on the European Law Moot Court (ELMC) as a case study. Based on a historical overview and a detailed examination of the ELMC’s design, rules, and functioning, the article evaluates its value as a pedagogical tool for developing essential professional skills—such as legal writing and oral advocacy, teamwork, time management, and multilingual communication—in law students. It also critically addresses some limitations of the model, particularly regarding its fidelity to real judicial procedures. The study concludes that moot court constitutes a highly effective teaching strategy to complement university legal training, fostering the link between theory and practice, enhancing institutional prestige, and promoting a better integration of European Union law in legal education.
