Linguistic contact through translation Study of lexical-grammatical features of foreign origin in Lu Xun’s translation, the case of Pastoral Songs of the Highlanders
Main Article Content
Abstract
The topic of Linguistic Contact through Translation (Kranich, Becher and Höder, 2011) has promoted an interdisciplinary perspective between Linguistics and translation studies. In this field, it is worth mentioning Lu Xun, a modern Chinese translator and writer, who have contributed to the westernization of the Chinese language at the beginning of the 20th century by means of hard translation. Based on the Code-Copying Framework, this paper provides an intratextual study between the Spanish, Japanese and Chinese versions, taking the Chinese anthology of Pío Baroja’s short stories as a case study, in order to discover how Lu Xun has managed to incorporate foreign language elements into Chinese through translation, to which development stage (momentary, habitual or conventionalized) have these elements reached and the possible influencing factors.
