Abstract

Among its different forms, Audiovisual translation (AVT) has been expanding considerably thanks to ongoing technological developments. There are applications that are changing the audiovisual world daily with new proposals, which undoubtedly require study. In this research, we focus on one of the most recent modalities of AVT: Audio Description in film products. In this work, therefore, we address the question of the description of images that convey cultural content, its transfer to the audio-described script, and whether it is addressed only to a public with visual impairments or if it can be extended to all people. After an essential presentation of the concept of cultural referent, the selected material will be exposed and analysed. These are film fragments belonging to cultures distant from each other. The purpose is to observe, on one side, the type of information introduced in the AD and the degree of comprehensibility; on the other if it is for a specific audience.
