The translation into Spanish of German dative possessive constructions Convergences and divergences
Main Article Content
Abstract
The availability of a large corpus in the German language of introductory verbs of the so-called Pertinenzdativ or «possessive dative», as well as the competition that these verbs mark with regard to other similar «possessive» verbs that introduce not Dativ but Akkusativ, makes, from the theoretical postulates of the Grammar of Dependencies or Theory of Valences, that those verbs with allude 'parts of the body' (the so-called «verbs of perception») are articulated around Satzbaupläne or «structures» of very diverse types. These structures respond to archetypes of very diverse types, based on monovalent verbs (as mein Kopf tut weh or mein Auge brennt), bivalent verbs (as es juckt mich or es tut mir weh), trivalent verbs (as sie sieht mir in die Augen or er schließt mich in seine Arme), etc. This heterogeneity becomes even clearer when elements of adverbial type are involved in these structures, which may be static in some cases (as jdn. an der Kehle packen) and dynamic in others (as jdm. etwas ins Ohr flüstern). For its part, the Spanish language, which don’t have always specific markers for these functions, provides an inventory of verbs with characteristics that do not necessarily coincide with German. This work aims to inventory the specific structures that we have in both German and Spanish, as well as the translation solutions into Spanish for each of them.
