Key features of museum labels and translation guidelines

Abstract
This article introduces the study of museums and exhibitions as communicative contexts of museum texts. It outlines its basic concepts with the aim of introducing us to a field that is still little explored. In exhibitions, the panel genre prevails. The essential features of label translation are analyzed through a level analysis. Implications and conditions of museum translation are established. For each level (discourse & textual, syntactic, lexical & semantic and orthotypographic) the relevant aspects of the genre and the applications for its translation are listed
