The role of dances and balls in courtyard comedy in the 17th Century

Abstract

Dance, in general, is an art that has accompanied mankind since the beginning of his existence, playing a role of more or less importance depending on the period in time. At the end of the 16th Century and especially during the 17th Century its relevance increases to the point that it becomes an essential element both in education and the entertainment of individuals. Therefore, the function that dance carries out in the performances will have a decisive influence in the development of dance itself as an independent entity, resulting in the shaping of the professional Spanish dancing. This article intends to establish the character of such functions, specifically, in the comedy of corral.
