Abstract

In everyday practice the translator often has to deal with scientific texts and very specific terminology in a concrete field. However, there is a type of text aimed at making science easier to understand for the general public known as popular scientific text, with a series of discourse and lexical characteristics which makes them interesting for translation didactics. We will analyse some of those texts and their use in the didactics of translation with concrete examples for the language combination German-Spanish. Based on experience, some subjects related to that kind of texts, e.g. nutrition, alternative medicine, can motivate students starting to work in the complex field of scientific translation.
