Abstract

Culture-specific items have been long considered as one of the most challenging elements for translators who act as mediators between the source and the target language and culture. Translators of audiovisual material have to face additional requirements and constraints which depend on the audiovisual translation mode. This article investigates the translation of culture-specific items for dubbing. Lithuanian-dubbed animated film “Hotel Transylvania” and its sequels have been selected as the material of the research. The study aims to distinguish the prevailing translation procedures of culture-specific items, and determine if Lithuanian translators tend to domesticate or foreignize the selected family animated films.
