Observational Study of the Cognitive Problems Faced by Consecutive Interpretating Students, Related to the Reproduction of Numerical References
Main Article Content
Abstract
The purpose of this research is to identify the problematic cognitive elements related to the comprehension and reproduction of the most recurrent numerical references in the subject of Consecutive Interpreting, in order to observe the strategies used by students to solve them. Therefore, an observational study of the interpreting process in students was conducted, based on the recordings of their interpretations, their notes, and a survey to extract qualitative data. The results indicate that all subjects experienced analogous cognitive problems, while their self-perception about the interpreting process contributed to a deeper understanding of the origin of such problems.
