Abstract

Specialized translation and proofreading require a double competence that covers both linguistic skill and knowledge on the specialization of the text. Despite the continuous development of sciences and new technologies, which could apparently create an ideal environment for translators/proofreaders and experts, our current reality reflects that the interaction between the two groups is insufficient. After reviewing the competences in translation, this paper aims to highlight the numerous advantages that expert consultation as a documentary resource may entail in the translation and proofreading of specialized texts. Moreover, this work proposes several guidelines and good practices to improve the interaction between experts and translators/proofreaders.
