The Concepts of Morphology and Syntax: Reflections on the Teaching of Grammar

Main Article Content

Salvador LÓPEZ QUERO

Abstract

This article takes firstly into consideration the concepts of morphology and syntax with a special and critical remark about the so called traditional Grammar, since the Greek and Roman World, and Middle Ages, until the 16th and 17th centuries. Then we discuss about the concept of Grammar, checking the different linguistic theories. As a conclusion, although Grammar is a whole unity, given that morphology and syntax make always connections mutually, we must say that their distinction is always useful as a methodological resort from an expositive-educational point of view, never as a property of the described object.
