The Spanish Translations of Wuthering Heights: Blatant Plagiarism

Abstract
The aim of this paper is to discuss the translations of a unique work of the English Romanticism into Spanish. Indeed Wuthering Heights has been highlighted by the critics as an outstanding landmark in English novel writing. The several Spanish translations of it though tend to miss the mark. The most common feature in them all is blatant plagiarism, where all respect for translation copyright is utterly disregarded.
It is my purpose here to go into some blunders where successive 20th century translators fall into the trap of blindly copying them. It is impossible to go into the causes of such reprehensible behaviour but we can imagine it was the lack of self-confidence in a language they didn't master. Whatever the causes for such behaviour, they never claimed their translation rights, as they perhaps felt they were in debt with previous authors.
