The journal accepts accepts manuscripts of both basic and applied research, as well as systematic reviews and meta-analyses, which are supported by solid and consolidated data, analysis and arguments. All manuscripts received undergo a rigorous and transparent double-blind peer review process.

PSE publishes following the Diamond Open Access model. In other words, PSE eliminates both Article Processing Charges (APCs) and subscription fees, ensuring that publication is entirely free for authors and any user or institution. Therefore, any users are allowed to read, download, copy, distribute, print, search, or link to the full texts of the articles in this journal without asking prior permission from the publisher or the author, as long as reference to the original source is made. For content coverage outside of our network, links to the PSE website are preferred. The journal is registered in the Directory of OpenAccess Journals (DOAJ).

PSE is a non-profit scientific journal. The journal was founded in 2009 at the University of Almeria in its online version.
